The Challenge

Operating in the demanding offshore conditions of the Persian Gulf, a leading oil and gas operator faced severe engineering threats to their subsea assets during the frequent installation and repositioning of jack-up rig legs. Two primary risks stood out: first, rig leg penetration and continuous operations caused significant soil disturbance, frequently subjecting adjacent subsea cables to excessive squeezing and over-bending; second, the dynamic environment, characterized by strong seabed currents and shifting topography, exposed these subsea cables to long-term fatigue-induced failure.

The Solution

To mitigate these risks, we provided a comprehensive mechanical protection solution. We deployed high-performance polyurethane Bend Restrictors to secure the subsea cables. The interlocking modular design ensures that, even during soil disturbances or topographical changes, the cable's Minimum Bend Radius (MBR) remains within safe thresholds, effectively preventing signal attenuation and mechanical failure. Beyond supplying the hardware, our engineering team conducted a thorough risk assessment to ensure that the installation of our protection covers was precisely positioned to avoid critical rig components and structural infrastructure, ensuring a seamless coexistence between our protective hardware and the rig’s existing assets.
