Polyurethane J-Tube Seals for Subsea Umbilicals & Flexible Risers

Product Infomation

In deepwater oil, gas, and offshore wind developments, J-tube seals are critical subsea protection components. They are engineered to seal the interface between the umbilical, cable, or flexible riser, hoses and the interior of the J-tube. By creating a watertight barrier, these seals allow anti-corrosion inhibitors to be injected, preventing seawater ingress and internal J-tube structural degradation.

The Advanrtages of J-tube Seal

1. Diverless / No Subsea Installation: It features a pull-through design. The seal is pre-installed onto the subsea cable on land or deck before deployment. As the cable is pulled into the J-tube, the seal automatically locks into place at the tube mouth. This allows for 100% topside operation, eliminating the need for divers or ROVs and significantly reducing offshore construction costs and risks.

2. Interference Fit: The outer diameter of the seal is slightly larger than the inner diameter of the J-tube. Once pulled into the tube, it creates a tight seal against both the tube wall and the cable body through compressive elastic deformation. This ensures high-performance sealing while securing the cable in place, preventing friction and wear caused by marine currents.

3. Corrosion Inhibitor Retention: It forms a physical isolation barrier at the tube mouth to prevent the corrosion inhibitors injected inside the J-tube from escaping into the sea. This ensures long-term internal corrosion protection while preventing marine environmental pollution.

4. Modular & Bespoke: We support custom formulations and tailored structural configurations to accommodate different cable diameters, J-tube dimensions, single/tri-core arrangements, as well as specific water depths and wave loads.

5. High-Performance Polyurethane Material: The seal is manufactured from high-strength, hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane (PU) elastomers, engineered to withstand marine biofouling and dynamic mechanical stresses over a design life of 20 to 25 years.

Why Choose Philson’s Polyurethane J-Tube Seal?

Exceptional Subsea Longevity: Our Seal are engineered to far outperform standard industrial plastics, which significantly extends service life and drastically reduces the need for costly subsea interventions and ROV replacement cycles.

Deepwater-Validated Reliability: The product is rated for extreme ocean depths exceeding 3,000 meters and delivers proven operational stability across a wide thermal range from -20°C to +80°C.

Maximizing ROI & OPEX Efficiency: These Seals deliver virtually maintenance-free operations, thereby minimizing expensive offshore downtime and mitigating the steep costs associated with subsea repairs.

Stringent Industry Compliance: Philson’s J-tube Seal are manufactured in strict accordance with leading international subsea equipment standards, fully complying with ISO 13628-5 and API 17D criteria.

Choose Philson’s Polyurethane J-Tube Seals to secure your offshore infrastructure with maintenance-free reliability, proven deepwater performance, and unmatched subsea longevity.

How Can You Achieve a Seamless Subsea J-Tube Sealing and Topside Hang-off System?

Our J-tube seals, paired with topside Hang-offs, offer a complete solution. These systems ensure smooth cable pull-in without tearing, withstand long-term open-air deck storage, and guarantee a reliable gas-tight seal to maintain your corrosion protection environment.

Our standard umbilical buoyancy modules are engineered for depths up to 3,000 meters. For ultra-deepwater applications, we customize the density of the closed-cell polyurethane synthetic foam core to withstand specific hydrostatic pressures, ensuring zero structural collapse and negligible buoyancy loss over extended deployments.
Yes, we provide heavy-duty topside Hang-off assemblies customized for your cable specifications. To fully support subsea corrosion protection systems, our Hang-off units are strictly fabricated from premium, marine-grade 316 stainless steel to prevent galvanic corrosion. They feature high-load mechanical clamping mechanisms to securely lock and bear the submarine cable's weight at the deck level, integrated with high-performance gas-tight seals and specialized valves to seamlessly support continuous nitrogen purging or corrosion inhibitor injection.
Yes. Offshore mobilization can face unpredictable weather delays, meaning equipment often sits on ship decks for weeks. Our marine-grade polyurethane compounds are integrated with specialized UV stabilizers and anti-oxidants. The seals can withstand direct, long-term exposure to harsh sunlight (UV radiation), salt spray, and atmospheric ozone without cracking, hardening, or losing their sealing performance before they ever touch the water.
